Fiction, Facts & Faith: A Call to Action Concerning the Legalization/Decriminalization of Marijuana

Dr. Janice McLean-Farrell, Dirk Romeyn Assistant Professor of Metro-Urban Ministry at 麻豆视频, invites faith leaders, community leaders, seminarians, college students, and interested members of the community to “Join us as we untangle myths, discuss serious concerns, and work together to find constructive ways people of faith can organize and advocate for restorative justice solutions.”

鈥淭here is a lot of misinformation particularly amongst people of faith regarding marijuana laws,鈥 explains Rosalee Boyer, Salvation and Social Justice’s Public Education Director.鈥淚t is imperative that people understand the moral, racial, and social justice implications around prohibition.鈥

Panelists for the Opening Plenary, 鈥淔iction & Facts: Legalization of Decriminalization,鈥 include Rev. Sammy Arroyo and Rev. Dr. Charles Franklin Boyer, Salvation and Social Justice; Maura Collinsgur, NJ Citizen Action; Dr. Janice McLean-Farrell and Rev. Micah L. McCreary, Ph.D., 麻豆视频; and, Roseanne Scotti, Drug Policy Alliance. Rev. Robin Tanner, Beacon Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Summit will be the moderator.

The program features three work groups that will explore The Danger of Youth Addiction; The Questionable Implications of Big Marijuana; and The Hope of Restorative & Retributive Justice.听 听

鈥淐annabis prohibition was devised to control communities of color and it has worked as intended, “says Rev. Charles Boyer, director of Salvation and Social Justice and pastor of Bethel AME Church in Woodbury, NJ. 鈥淲e must end the drug war, which is a war on people.鈥
